First trimester:

This course is about recording in practice! You will begin by learning how to compose a range of musical pieces using electronic music equipment and software. In doing so, you will learn how toapply music composition skills and create music that synchronises with sequences in screen productions, and rework an existing composition into a different instrumental or vocal grouping to produce a musically distinctive sound. This will assist you when it comes to developing original concepts for products, programs, processes or services.

Second trimester:

Edit your sound with the help of professional studio software and complete the final mix of your recordings. Make use of samplers, synthesizers, equalizers, dynamics and effects and carry out a complete and documented music production together with musical artists. Undertake post-production of recorded pieces to finalise the mix and master in accordance with the concept and creative brief in order to create a polished work.

Third trimester:

You are now coming into your own and able to work as an independent operator within the creative arts industry. You are responsible for musical direction; developing an overall sound design from production briefs and implementing a design for any productions requiring sound. You foresee and capitalise on the commercial potential of new and emerging artists, trends, styles and genres of music; managing the professional and career development of artists, including but not limited to, the individual and collaborative copyright arrangements for original works.

This introductory Ableton Live music production course will teach you the fundamental skills needed to understand and navigate the core functionality of Ableton Live as well as basic music production skills to help you create your first music track from start to finish; a foundation to further build upon after the course. See this course as a stepping stone as you embark on your music journey and one where your trainer will help equip you with the necessary foundation to kick start your music career or hobby where you will be exposed to valuable industry insights and experiences along the way to reinforce the teachings and learnings in a fun, relaxed and collaborative atmosphere.

  • Navigate the Ableton Live interface efficiently and comfortably use its key, core functions including equalisation, compression and different audio effects

Building upon the Intro course, students will be taken on a journey through more advanced / intermediate concepts that will surely serve to help increase their efficiency, build their confidence further and to help students deepen existing learnings.

The key aim of this course is to build upon their foundation and to arm them with many proven tips and techniques that will help them develop ideas, commit to them and complete their music in a far more efficient manner whilst helping improve their overall sound and quality of composition, arrangement, sound design etc.

The course will dive deeper into advanced music production processes and will unpack more Ableton Live functionality along with a further deepening of existing music production and related knowledge. Building upon existing Ableton Live knowledge, students will be coached and supported further to help them achieve some of their musical goals with the key aim to finish more music, confidently, creatively and efficiently.

Both existing students and new students are all welcome.

After this short course students will be able to:

  • Develop an idea using many different tips and techniques and complete a full track from an 8 bar loop
