Dewi Bekker

(Fashion designer)

Dewi Bekker is a Dutch menswear designer based in The Hague. As a designer she has a playful view on menswear. It is her goal to find an ultimate balance between humor, the everyday life and fantasy within her work. The use of unconventional materials and a bright color palette add to the absurdist and surreal mood of the designs. Besides creating an alienating atmosphere she also attaches great importance to the technical execution of the garments. Her work has been showcased at Paris Men’s Fashion Week (FR), Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam, Centraal Museum Utrecht and the Dutch Design Week among others. During her studies Dewi Bekker did internships at Bernhard Willhelm (Paris) and Hannes Kettritz (Berlin). She graduated in 2013 from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. After her graduation she started her own label. In 2014 she got selected as one of the four designers for the MOAM voor HEMA collection. Together they designed a 20-pieced collection that was taken into production and has been for sale in 200 HEMA stores throughout The Netherlands. During this year she also became co-founder of design collective Das Leben am Haverkamp. The collective Das Leben am Haverkamp is formed by four young fashion designers – Anouk van Klaveren, Christa van der Meer, Dewi Bekker and Gino Anthonisse. All the members have their individual label, and present it collectively. Together they create the novel context necessary for their unrestricted way of working and thinking.
